A studio built for mess
Mess+Masterpiece is a hands-on art studio in Morris Plains, New Jersey, for kids who paint, sculpt, glue, and glitter without anyone saying “be careful.” We start from the idea that every kid already has something worth making loud: our job is to hand them supplies, slow the clock, and cheer for the messy middle.
Our Morris Plains space is unhurried and plain-spoken: rainbow shelves, tables sized for small hands, and aprons with history. It’s built for wandering, wondering, and trying ideas without a script.
Between drop-ins, after-school blocks, parties, and open studio, we want kids to carry a little more swagger home, and parents to trade stories with neighbors in the lobby. Walk-ins welcome when we have space.

Tiny Makers + You
A morning spot for ages 1-5 and the grown-ups who tag along: a bite-sized art prompt, sensory bins for squishing and sorting, and enough stomp-and-clap to lose the wiggles. Caregivers stay in the paint splatter beside their kid. No art background required, just willingness to get a little ridiculous together.

Mini Makers Lab
A semester-style block for 6-8 year-olds who like finishing what they start. Over the series, kids ship four wall-worthy pieces while borrowing moves from a rotating cast of art-world rule-breakers: think color blocking, splatter energy, soft landscapes, and rhythmic abstraction. Watercolor, tempera, crayon, and cut paper, with design vocabulary folded in between the mess.

Studio Makers
For 8-10 year-olds ready to stretch: three finished projects across the term, each anchored to a different famous rebel: dream-logic scenes, fractured portraits, and controlled drip chaos. Tempera, colored pencil, paper construction, and air-dry clay, with room to debate balance, contrast, and when to break the rules on purpose.
